FLIGHTS TO VIETNAM from the UK, US and Autralia

Vietnam can be reached from most of the major cities in the world and here is a list of what you may need to know before hopping on a plane for this home of natural beauties and foodie’s paradise. It also includes answers to some frequently asked questions such as how long is a flight to Vietnam or how to get from the airport to the city center.
 Getting to Vietnam from the UK

Flights to Vietnam arrive at either Tan Son Nhat in Saigon or Noi Bai in Hanoi. These are the major and biggest international airports in the country. There are direct flights from the UK to Vietnam that land in either Saigon or Ha Noi but most flights are non-direct. There is no direct flight to Vietnam from the US; most of them have at least one stop on the way. They also land in the two largest airports which are Noi Bai in the north and Tan Son Nhat in the south.

Getting to Vietnam from Australia

Flights to Vietnam from Australia also arrive at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat. Airlines that fly to Vietnam include Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Virgin Australia, Cathay Pacific and China Southern. Tips for economical tickets to Vietnam are to consider Jetstar or Vietnam airlines, which usually offer the best deals and book a flight to Saigon, aka Ho Chi Minh City, to reduce the cost a little bit more.

  • Melbourne to Vietnam: 8 hours 15 minutes.

Getting to the city center from the airport

Buses and meter taxis are available at Noi Bai International airport in Ha Noi. You can choose from bus number 17, express bus number 86 and the airport shuttle buses. The cheapest one is the bus number 17 that takes you from Noi Bai to Long Bien station; bear in mind that you have to pay extra if you have luggage and the fee is 7.000 VND. The orange bus number 86 offers the most comfortable experience at the cost of 30.000 VND, and there is no luggage restriction on this one. Shuttle buses of some airlines are another option. You would be dropped at Hanoi Old Quarter but not your hotel.

There are meter taxies available in Noi Bai if you do not want to be packed in like sardines on buses. Uber and Grab also offer some good deals on transport to and from the airport but booking in advance is required since there are not many Grab or Uber cars operate around Noi Bai.

There is a wider range of choices in terms of buses in Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The yellow bus number 109 is air-conditioned, equipped with a Vietnamese-English information board and security cameras but the staff speaks limited English; you will be dropped at the city center if taking this one. The cost is either 12.000 VND or 20.000 VND depends on where you get off. Another yellow one is the bus number 49, it charges 40.000 VND a ride but would take you directly to your hotel in the city; no luggage fee is charged on this bus. The cheapest option is the green bus number 152, each passenger has to pay just 5.000 VND per ride, but you would have to pay extra for your luggage.
